Cabinet committee reviews Muharram arrangements

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2026) A cabinet committee for Faisalabad division on Friday reviewed security and administrative arrangements for Ashra Muharram-ul-Haram, directing officials to ensure strict implementation of measures aimed at maintaining law and order during the holy month.

The committee, comprising Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari,Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan and Special Assistant for Political Affairs Zeeshan Malik visited the Central Imambargah and key procession routes to inspect preparations.

Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen and RPO Sohail Akhtar Sukhera briefed the committee on security plans and administrative arrangements made for majalis and processions across the division.

Later,chairing a meeting at the Commissioner Office, Information Minister Azma Bokhari said a comprehensive security plan was being implemented across Punjab to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.

She said maintaining law and order during Muharram was the government's foremost priority and stressed the need for close coordination between the administration and the public.

The minister directed deputy commissioners and district police officers to remain in constant contact with organizers of majalis and processions to ensure adherence to schedules and security protocols.

She ordered officials to further strengthen security at sensitive locations and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply,availability of cold drinking water and installation of electric fans at majalis venues and along procession routes.

Bokhari said that,in line with the directions of Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif,Muharram control rooms should remain operational round the clock and complaints from the public should be addressed without delay.

She also instructed authorities to engage organisers in the use of QR code-based panic buttons outside imambargahs to improve emergency response.

Given the prevailing hot weather, the minister directed officials to ensure regular sprinkling of water on procession routes and at majalis sites.

She said a quick response force had been deployed to curb the spread of fake news,sectarian content and religious hatred on social media.

The minister added that all majalis and processions in the division would be monitored through Safe City cameras and directed officials to raise public awareness regarding alternative traffic routes.

She also instructed traffic police personnel to remain alert to ensure smooth traffic flow during Muharram.
