ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) In a significant step towards modernizing public service delivery, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced that cashless payment facilities have become operational at all Passport Offices across Pakistan, allowing applicants to pay passport fees electronically without having to wait in long queues at payment counters.
Sharing the development on his social media platform X, the interior minister described the launch as a major milestone in the government's digital transformation agenda aimed at making public services faster, more transparent and citizen-friendly.
"Alhamdulillah, starting today, cashless transactions are operational at all Passport Offices across Pakistan. Applicants no longer need to stand in long queues or wait for hours to make payments," Naqvi wrote on X.
He said the initiative was implemented on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, adding that the Passport administration had successfully completed the nationwide rollout of the cashless payment system.
Under the new mechanism, passport applicants can now pay the prescribed fee through digital payment channels, significantly reducing waiting times and streamlining the application process. The initiative is expected to ease congestion at passport offices while improving the speed, transparency and efficiency of service delivery.
Officials believe the transition to cashless payments will also reduce reliance on manual cash handling, strengthen financial accountability and enhance operational efficiency across the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

Naqvi credited the dedicated efforts of the Passport team for the successful implementation of the initiative.
"This important reform was initiated on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and our team has successfully delivered it," he said.
The interior minister further emphasized that the launch reflects the government's commitment to improving the experience of citizens seeking essential services.
"This is another step towards making public services faster, more transparent, and more convenient for our citizens. Many more milestones lie ahead and, InshaAllah, we will continue to achieve them," he stated.
Praising the officials and staff involved in the project, Naqvi concluded his message by saying, "Well done to the entire Passport team. Keep up the excellent work."
The nationwide introduction of cashless payment services is expected to benefit hundreds of thousands of passport applicants every year while supporting Pakistan's broader vision of digitalization, transparent governance and efficient public service delivery.
