LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Additional Inspector General (AIG) Crime Control Department (CCD) Sohail Zafar Chatha on Wednesday directed CCD officers to ensure strict compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), uphold human rights and avoid any misuse of authority while performing their duties.
Addressing a seven-hour training session for CCD officers at the Police Training Centre, Chung, as the chief guest, the AIG said the government had equipped the CCD with enhanced resources and greater authority to strengthen crime prevention and law enforcement, but greater authority also demanded greater responsibility.
Special prayers were offered at the outset of the session for the forgiveness of innocent Hania, who lost her life in the Chakwal incident, as well as for the martyred personnel of Punjab Police and the CCD, and for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Sohail Zafar Chatha said the dedication and professionalism of CCD officers had, for the first time, created a sense of security among the public. Referring to a recent survey, he said 84 per cent of respondents had appreciated the department's performance, adding that such public confidence placed a greater responsibility on every officer to maintain the department's reputation through professional conduct.
He expressed confidence that with sincerity, commitment and hard work, the CCD could emerge as one of the world's leading investigative agencies.
The AIG stressed that no officer or official should exceed the authority delegated by the department.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He directed officers to prioritise the protection of innocent lives during all operations, even if it benefited a suspect, and emphasised that justice and respect for human rights must remain the department's guiding principles.
He instructed officers to refrain from any form of mistreatment of suspects in custody and said it was the department's responsibility to provide detainees with clean drinking water, food and necessary medicines.
Chatha further said keeping a suspect at any place other than a police station was a serious violation and would not be tolerated. He directed that all suspects must remain at the relevant police station and any further investigation should be conducted there.
Referring to the Chakwal incident, he said the entire department was deeply saddened by the tragedy, adding that the alleged mistake of a single officer had affected the image of the whole department. He said opening fire on a suspect without proper and positive identification was unacceptable and a clear violation of the department's SOPs.
He said an impartial inquiry into the Chakwal incident was underway and assured that every effort would be made to ensure justice was done and seen to be done.
The training session was attended by Waqas-ul-Hasan and CCD officers from across Punjab. At the conclusion of the session, the AIG distributed certificates of appreciation among officers for their outstanding performance.
