accountability and the rule of law in the investigation into the death of 10-year-old Hania

during an anti-robbery operation in Lahore, saying the officer responsible has been

arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

According to a CCD spokesperson, the officer was immediately suspended and taken

Armed suspects had intercepted a family

vehicle and were holding its occupants at gunpoint when officers reached the scene.

During the operation, the suspects opened fire on a CCD officer, triggering an exchange

of gunfire. In the ensuing confrontation, the officer mistakenly believed the suspects

were attempting to flee in the victims’ vehicle and opened fire, resulting in the death

of Hania and injuries to her father and brother.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, the CCD extended condolences to the

bereaved family and termed the officer’s actions a serious violation of departmental

SOPs and legal standards governing the use of force.

The spokesperson said a thorough and impartial investigation was underway to ensure

justice and stressed that there could be no justification for any departure from established

operational protocols.
