LODHRAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) The district administration launched a strict crackdown against transporters involved in overcharging passengers, following special directives issued by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf.
According to official sources, the staff of the Regional Transport Authority remained active over the past two days to ensure implementation of government-approved fare lists across the district. During the campaign, authorities inspected 60 passenger vehicles and collected fare-related feedback directly from commuters.
The checking drive resulted in challans issued to 13 vehicles, while three vehicles were impounded for charging fares beyond the officially notified rates.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Authorities also recovered and returned Rs 9,650 in excess fares to affected passengers.
In addition to the recovery of overcharged amounts, transporters violating the regulations were fined a total of Rs 46,500.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf said the district administration would continue strict monitoring to ensure that the benefits of subsidy provided by the Punjab government to transporters are shifted to the public. He emphasized that exploitation of passengers would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
