KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Mar, 2026) The district administration has launched a crackdown on public transport operators ahead of Eid, issuing 57 challans for overcharging and overloading.
Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid, the District Regional Transport Authority (RTA) carried out a large-scale operation across the district. During the campaign, around 500 vehicles were inspected, while 30 vehicles were impounded for violating transport regulations.
Authorities also provided immediate relief to commuters by recovering and returning Rs172,500 in excess fares charged by transporters.
In addition, fines worth Rs85,500 were imposed on vehicle owners.
Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid said that overcharging and overloading would not be tolerated, particularly during Eid when reliance on public transport increases. She emphasized that strict monitoring is underway to protect passengers from exploitation and to ensure compliance with government-approved fare lists.
