On the special directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, a formal cheque distribution ceremony was held in Haripur for the victims of the tragic gas pipeline incident in Hattar that claimed nine lives and left 10 others injured

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) On the special directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, a formal cheque distribution ceremony was held in Haripur for the victims of the tragic gas pipeline incident in Hattar that claimed nine lives and left 10 others injured.

Special prayers were also offered for the departed souls, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Under the Prime Minister’s relief package, financial assistance of Rs. 2 million was provided to the families of the deceased, while Rs. 500,000 was distributed among the injured to provide immediate relief.

Retired Captain Safdar Awan attended the ceremony as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he stated that the government remains committed in extending full support to the affected families and ensuring their welfare.

He noted that prompt relief measures were implemented on the Prime Minister’s directives, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) ensuring effective coordination.

He also appreciated the Pakistan Army for its timely rescue and relief efforts and commended Deputy Commissioner Haripur, Waseem Ahmad, for his swift response, effective coordination, and leadership during the emergency.

He further expressed gratitude to the prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif for prioritizing relief efforts.

The ceremony was attended by Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Babar Nawaz, Zanaib Khan, Secretary PML-N, along with officials Shahzia Jadoon PMLN MPA and the district administration, reflecting coordinated efforts between Federal and provincial authorities.

During the ceremony, cheques were formally distributed among the affected families. Speakers expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and reiterated the government’s commitment to continued support, rehabilitation, and assistance for the victims.

The affected families expressed appreciation for the timely financial assistance and acknowledged the efforts of the government, Pakistan Army, NDMA, PDMA, and the district administration. They particularly praised Deputy Commissioner Waseem Ahmad for his dedicated role in relief operations.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and emphasized the need for strengthened safety protocols and effective monitoring systems in industrial and residential areas to prevent such incidents in the future.
