KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Apr, 2026) The Chinese delegation and Sindh Minister for Local Government, Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah held a detailed discussion regarding cleanliness, waste management, and the improvement of urban facilities in the city. Officials from the Sindh Solid Waste Management board and Project SWEEP participated in the occasion.

The meeting focused on introducing cleanliness systems in other districts of Sindh province—following Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Sukkur—and on allocating land for new landfill sites, said a statement on Friday.

The Minister for Local Government directed that modern machinery and technology be introduced to further enhance the effectiveness of the solid waste management system in Karachi.

He also instructed the use of laser reader devices at landfill sites, which would facilitate waste categorization, generate organized data, and ensure transparency.

On this occasion, he urged the delegation from the Chinese company to prioritize addressing the growing waste problems, drain cleaning, and waste collection challenges in Karachi.

He directed SWEEP to expedite development work on the engineered sanitary landfill site.

The meeting was attended by Managing Director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, Tariq Ali Nizamani, SWEEP officials, and representatives of Chinese companies.

During the briefing, the MD of Sindh Solid Waste Management Board reported that proposals have been submitted for allocating land for landfill sites in other districts of Sindh, including Kashmore, Kandhkot, Larkana, Kot Diji, Nawabshah, Sehwan, Malkiar Hyderabad, Umerkot, and Dhabeji, to enable safe and efficient waste disposal.

Meanwhile, work on Pakistan's first modern landfill site at Jam Chakro is progressing rapidly, and these projects will be completed soon, bringing significant improvements to the waste collection and transportation system.

The meeting was also updated on the progress of construction and development at the Jam Chakro landfill site.

According to details, one cell of the project has already been completed, while work on additional cells is ongoing.

The engineered sanitary landfill site will become operational shortly, which will not only enable environmentally friendly waste disposal but is also expected to generate approximately $20 million in carbon credits upon completion.

The Chinese delegation shared their expertise regarding waste management, recycling, and modern systems, and assured continued cooperation.
