Chiniot police arrest 77 suspects in 24-hour crackdown on crime

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a large-scale crackdown against criminal elements is underway across Chiniot district, police said on Friday.

According to District Police Officer Dr. Naveed Atif, Chiniot Police arrested 77 suspects, including proclaimed offenders, during operations conducted over the past 24 hours. The arrested individuals included drug dealers, absconders, and those involved in various criminal activities.

Police said one drug suspect was arrested with over 1,800 grams of hashish, while 36 proclaimed offenders and 33 court fugitives were also taken into custody. In separate actions, seven individuals were arrested for gambling, illegal gas refilling, reckless driving, and overspeeding.

During routine checks using the Police Post App, 410 suspicious individuals and 677 vehicles were screened. Additionally, 100 vehicles were issued challans for traffic violations, resulting in fines exceeding Rs. 200,000.

Dr. Naveed Atif stated that the police are taking concrete steps to ensure the protection of lives and property, using both manpower and modern technology. He added that all available resources are being utilized to maintain law and order and urged citizens to report any criminal activity to the nearest police station or helpline 15.
