Chiniot women protection cell strengthens efforts against harassment, promotes awareness

CHINIOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Apr, 2026) In line with the progressive vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cell in Chiniot is playing a pivotal and proactive role in preventing violence and harassment against women, whereas authorities continue to enhance safety mechanisms, furthermore ensuring protection for vulnerable groups, the local correspondent of APP reported this from Chiniot on Wednesday, citing official sources.

According to the details, officials revealed that the cell has been working actively to curb incidents of domestic abuse, child exploitation, and sexual harassment, meanwhile facilitating timely redress of complaints. In 2026 alone, the cell received 135 applications, out of which 70 domestic dispute cases were resolved amicably, helping couples avoid divorce through effective reconciliation efforts.

Over the past three months, more than 50 cases related to harassment, financial disputes, and other issues were reported, moreover reflecting growing public trust in the institution. Awareness seminars and walks were conducted extensively at educational institutions and public places to promote a sense of security and inform women about their rights.

District Police Officer Chiniot, Dr. Naveed Atif, while exclusively talking to APP, emphasized that Punjab Police is taking comprehensive measures to eliminate violence against women, therefore encouraging victims to seek help without hesitation. He added that women can access assistance quickly through the Women Safety App, Punjab Police Public App, and emergency helplines, reinforcing the department’s commitment to safeguarding women’s dignity and security.
