- Citizens get over Rs.5.6m relief from faulty property tax challans on Ombudsman Punjab orders

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) The Office of the Punjab Ombudsman on Monday secured financial relief exceeding Rs.5.6 million for citizens affected by erroneous property tax challans issued by the excise department.
According to a spokesperson,several complaints were lodged with the Ombudsman’s office highlighting discrepancies in property records,which led to the issuance of incorrect challans and caused financial strain for taxpayers.
Taking notice,the Ombudsman directed the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent and merit-based review of the cases and ensure the accuracy of official records.
The department was further instructed to issue revised challans in accordance with verified data.
Following these directives,the excise department initiated a comprehensive rectification process and corrected the faulty challans.
As a result,affected citizens were granted cumulative relief of over Rs.5.6 million.
Complainants lauded the Ombudsman’s timely intervention,noting that the swift action not only resolved their grievances but also provided significant financial relief.
