Repair work at Dhabeji pumping station to disrupt water supply across key city areas on weekend

KARACHI:
Large parts of the city are set to face a severe water shortage as supply will remain suspended for 48 hours due to repair work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station. According to the Water Corporation, the shutdown is necessary to connect a new main Line No 5 to the existing network under the Sindh government's Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Programme, being implemented with the support of the World Bank. During this period, nine pumps at the Dhabeji facility - including those supplying K-II, K-III, and additional GK lines - will remain non-operational. As a result, water supply will be disrupted on Saturday and Sunday in several areas, including Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Chanesar Goth, parts of Central District, and the Old City area. Officials stated that the disruption will last from April 25 to April 27, after which the new line will be fully integrated into the main system. Residents in affected areas have been advised to use water sparingly and make necessary arrangements in advance.
