Climate-smart agriculture imperative for food security: Dr.Zulfiqar

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr.Zulfiqar Ali on Monday called for promoting climate-smart agriculture and value addition to strengthen food security and make the agriculture sector more profitable.

According to a spokesperson,He was speaking to a delegation of the Inland Study Tour of the 39th Senior Management Course led by Director Staff Farooq Adeel and Jamal-ur-Rehman at the Syndicate Room,where senior university officials, deans and directors were also present.

The VC said the agriculture sector was facing multiple challenges,including climate change,low productivity and soil degradation.

He noted that although modern agricultural technologies were available, their adoption at the farmer level remains limited.

Prof.Dr.Zulfiqar Ali reiterated the university’s commitment to producing skilled professionals capable of acting as change-makers in the agriculture sector.

He stressed that improving soil health was essential for sustainable farming and called for urgent measures to address water scarcity and raise awareness about modern farming practices.

He emphasized the role of extension services and digital communication tools in bridging the gap between research and field-level application,particularly for small farmers.

He added that progressive farmers are achieving nearly double the per-acre productivity compared to average growers.

Highlighting the university’s academic performance, the VC said 48 UAF scientists have been ranked among the top 2 percent scientists globally.

He added that UAF has also strengthened its international standing by securing 33rd position in Agriculture and Forestry and 61st in Veterinary Science in QS World Rankings.

Later,the delegation visited the Main library,Soil Sciences and Horticulture Sciences departments.
