LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday granted in-principle approval for the province’s first Sky Glass Bridge project in Kotli Sattian as part of efforts to promote tourism and upgrade infrastructure in Murree and adjoining areas.
The approval was given during a special meeting jointly presided over by PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the chief minister to review progress on the Murree Protection and Rehabilitation Plan, said a handout issued here.
The meeting decided to engage international experts to address the persistent issue of landsliding in Murree. The chief minister directed immediate measures to counter the mid-flow downhill effect and ordered relief and rehabilitation of affected residents in Chatta Mor, Darya Gali, Bansera Gali, Naml, Jhika Gali and surrounding localities.
It was also decided to establish three new hospitality zones in suburban Murree, Shawala, Sozo and Brewery, where five-star standard hotels would be developed in collaboration with the private sector.
The chief minister approved formation of an expert team for the Murree rehabilitation project and directed immediate removal of debris from structures demolished during anti-encroachment operations.
The meeting was informed that Jhika Gali Road and Reach Bil Road would be widened by 10 feet each, while a one-month deadline was set to initiate construction work on the Murree Glass Train project.
A detailed briefing was given on three new parks planned for Murree, including Angoori Road Park, MIT Park and Ariari Park in Kotli Sattian.
Plans were also shared to develop a zoological garden, eco-zone, bridge crossing and a state-of-the-art conference facility at Bansera Gali, along with wildlife conservation facilities such as a bear house, tiger house and bird aviary.
The chief minister approved establishment of Murree’s first glamping pod village at Chewra Hill, to be developed as a modern tourist attraction and managed through private sector outsourcing. The meeting also approved a Paragliding Club project in Chewra and reviewed progress on the Kotli Sattian chairlift project, Punjab House and Forest Rest House initiatives.
Directing improvements in water supply, the chief minister ordered completion of a feasibility report by April 30 for a bulk water supply scheme from River Jhelum for Murree district.
According to a briefing by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Shirazi, rainwater harvesting systems have been implemented in over 187,600 homes in Murree and Kotli Sattian, easing the burden on women and children who previously had to fetch water from distant sources. Water supply schemes in Dhar Jawa and Donga Gali have also been completed.
The chief minister also granted in-principle approval for establishing Punjab’s first Facility Management Unit to oversee construction, maintenance and management of Punjab Houses and other public buildings across the province.
