CM launches free cardiac surgery programme

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Mar, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the Chief Minister Cardiac Surgery Programme to provide free and timely treatment to heart patients across the province, with a target to eliminate waiting lists for open-heart surgeries.

According to a handout issued here on Sunday, the initiative, introduced under the Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department, has been rolled out in nine public and 15 private cardiac institutions, offering free treatment to eligible residents of Punjab. The first successful open-heart surgery under the programme has already been performed at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, marking a key milestone in its implementation.

An amount exceeding Rs 3 billion annually has been allocated to support the treatment of cardiac patients, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding access to life-saving procedures.

To facilitate patients, a dedicated helpline (0800-09009) has been established, while assistance is also available via phone at 042-99066000 from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM. Additionally, guidance can be obtained through WhatsApp at 0333-6756390 to ensure broader accessibility.

The chief minister said the government is committed to providing advanced healthcare facilities to thousands of cardiac patients, adding that the programme will ensure free, timely and quality treatment throughout the province.
