LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday operationalised modern pumping-out water disposal stations in Lahore, Gujrat, Jhang and Sialkot, marking a significant step towards strengthening the province’s rainwater drainage system during the ongoing monsoon season.
According to a handout, the newly installed pumping stations, each with a disposal capacity of more than 200 cusecs, are designed to accelerate the removal of rainwater from low-lying and flood-prone areas, significantly reducing the risk of prolonged waterlogging after heavy rainfall.
Officials termed the project a major advancement in Punjab’s urban drainage infrastructure, saying the new facilities would improve the efficiency of monsoon response operations and enhance the government’s capacity to deal with heavy downpours.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The stations have already contributed to faster rainwater clearance in the four districts, enabling authorities to restore normal traffic and public movement within a much shorter time than in previous years.
Residents of Gujrat, Jhang, Sialkot and Lahore’s Tajpura locality welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for the chief minister’s efforts. They said localities that previously remained submerged for days, and in some cases weeks, after heavy rains were now being cleared within hours due to the improved drainage system.
