CM orders drainage, traffic, safety measures amid heavy rainfall

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed all relevant departments across the province to remain on high alert amid ongoing stormy rains and ensure effective arrangements for public safety, drainage of rainwater and emergency response.

The CM instructed authorities to ensure immediate drainage of accumulated rainwater and ordered continuous supervision and monitoring of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operations to prevent urban flooding and disruption. She also directed the Irrigation Department to keep its field teams fully alert and maintain constant surveillance of canals, storm drains and rainwater channels to ensure timely response to any unusual water flow situation.

Emphasizing public safety, the chief minister ordered that all manholes in urban and rural areas must remain properly covered, while strictly directing that rainwater should not be allowed to accumulate in residential and commercial localities. She further instructed all relevant departments to adopt necessary precautionary measures during rainfall and ensure strict safety arrangements at construction sites to prevent accidents.

The chief minister also called for special monitoring of dilapidated and structurally vulnerable buildings, directing district administrations to issue public alerts regarding the risk of roof collapses and to take preventive steps to protect lives and property. To ensure smooth traffic flow during adverse weather conditions, she ordered special arrangements on major highways and key roads across Punjab, directing the Safe City Authority and traffic police teams to remain fully vigilant.

Field teams have also been instructed to remain fully prepared for public guidance, emergency response and rapid rescue operations during the rainfall spell. “All relevant institutions must remain active, vigilant and responsive to ensure the safety of citizens and protect life and property across Punjab,” the CM added.
