CM orders strict quality, transparency in road construction projects

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) On the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a comprehensive province-wide

programme has been launched for the restoration and rehabilitation of road infrastructure across

Punjab, with strict instructions to ensure transparency, quality standards and adherence to timelines

in all development projects.

According to a handout issued here on Monday, the chief minister said that road construction and

rehabilitation work under the “CM Local Roads Programme” was progressing rapidly across various

districts of the province. She said modern and durable infrastructure remains a top priority of the

provincial government to facilitate the public.

She has also made compliance with lane and line discipline mandatory in Lahore and other major cities,

directing strict enforcement to improve traffic flow and ensure road safety. In this regard, multi-billion-rupee transport infrastructure and bus stop projects had already been approved for Faisalabad, Gujrat,

Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Multan.

Under her directives, the work was also underway on mass transit projects in Faisalabad and

Gujranwala to provide modern and efficient travel facilities to citizens. The chief minister has

further ordered the implementation of a modern traffic management system in Lahore and other

key cities of Punjab.

She also directed that solar-powered streetlights be installed on all newly constructed roads

to promote energy efficiency and enhance public safety.

The CM said that more than 30,000 kilometres of roads had already been constructed, repaired

or rehabilitated across the province under ongoing development initiatives. She added that major

highways in Murree had been restored under the “Restoration of Roads” programme to facilitate

tourists and local residents.
