PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) A key meeting on education sector reforms was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, where progress on ongoing reforms was reviewed and proposed measures were discussed in detail.
The Chief Minister directed the release of Rs. 500 million for the establishment of an interdisciplinary research center in the province. The meeting also agreed to establish community schools in remote areas to accelerate literacy rates.
It was decided to expand the double-shift school program and introduce IT and AI courses in educational institutions. The Chief Minister further instructed authorities to convene a detailed session to finalize the roadmap for implementation of proposed reforms.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Sohail Afridi said special focus had been placed on education and health sectors over the past five to six months, yielding positive results. He emphasized that health and education were directly linked to public welfare.
He added that the provincial government was investing in human development in line with the vision of Imran Khan. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure comprehensive transformation in the education sector and that no child is deprived of the fundamental right to education,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister also directed the formation of a coordination committee and the holding of a follow-up meeting to ensure effective implementation of agreed proposals.
The meeting expressed satisfaction over progress on key initiatives, including e-transfer policy, uniform curriculum, semester system, monitoring mechanisms, teachers’ training, school-based assessment, virtual schooling, and AI courses.
A proposed framework aimed at increasing literacy, promoting modern educational trends, and ensuring equal access to education was also discussed.
The meeting was attended by Education Minister Arshad Ayub, along with education experts and senior officials of the education department.
