Colleges fail to begin admissions on time

The Sindh College Education Department has failed to begin admissions for first-year intermediate classes in government colleges across Karachi despite its official announcement, leaving at least 125,000 students awaiting enrollment.

Admissions for Intermediate Part-I were scheduled to begin on June 1. Advertisements published in national newspapers on May 23 stated that online registration for admissions would start from June 1. The last date for registration was set as July 15.

Nearly 125,000 students seek admission to government colleges in Karachi each year under the Centralised Admission Policy (CAP), commonly known as SECCAP. Admissions are offered in six academic streams: Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Computer Science, Commerce, Humanities and Home Economics.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Director General Colleges, Professor Zahid Rajper, said the portal was temporarily down due to technical issues.

"The technical team is working on resolving the problem, and we are hopeful that the portal will be functional by Wednesday morning, after which students will be able to submit their applications," he said.
