RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Amir Khattak on Thursday directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure comprehensive preparedness for the expected rains and the upcoming monsoon season.
Chairing a meeting at the Commissioner's Office, he reviewed contingency plans and precautionary measures with officials from the district administration, WASA, Rescue 1122, Municipal Corporation, Civil Defence, Irrigation Department, Highways Department, Local Government and other concerned agencies.
The commissioner directed the concerned to utilize available resources to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater and prevent water accumulation in any area, with the Primary objective of safeguarding lives and property.
He ordered continuous monitoring of all major and minor drains, storm-water channels and waterways, including Nullah Lai, to ensure the uninterrupted flow of water during rainfall.
Khattak also instructed the concerned authorities to intensify drain-cleaning operations and remove encroachments obstructing watercourses.
He emphasized the need for special attention to low-lying areas, underpasses, major highways and other vulnerable locations, directing officials to ensure prompt drainage of rainwater in such areas.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The commissioner further directed to keep machinery, water pumps, manpower and emergency equipment operational to respond effectively to any situation arising from heavy rainfall.
He instructed Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and the district administration to keep emergency response plans active and ensure the timely dissemination of safety advisories and public information.
All field officers were directed to remain present in the field during rainfall, regularly inspect sensitive locations and submit daily situation reports to the Commissioner's Office.
The commissioner also ordered round-the-clock functioning of control rooms to facilitate the prompt resolution of public complaints and emergencies.
He stressed the importance of close coordination among all departments to effectively address emergencies during the monsoon season and ensure maximum protection and convenience for citizens.
Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Zenia Humayun and deputy commissioners from across the division also attended the meeting.
