Commissioner expresses concern over rapid decline in groundwater level in Thal region

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Commissioner Sargodha Division, Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Wednesday presided over a meeting to review the alarming decline in the underground water table in Bhakkar district, particularly in the Thal region.

According to the spokesperson for the Commissioner's office here, during the meeting, officials from relevant departments briefed participants on the deteriorating groundwater situation, stating that water levels in various parts of Thal were continuously dropping, posing serious threats to agriculture, availability of clean drinking water, and environmental sustainability.

Expressing deep concern over the situation, the Commissioner directed the concerned departments to formulate a comprehensive strategy on an emergency basis to restore the groundwater table.

He emphasized the need for effective measures, including rainwater harvesting, initiation of water recharge projects, and strict prevention of unnecessary water wastage.

The meeting also stressed the importance of launching public awareness campaigns regarding water conservation to minimize wastage and promote responsible use of water resources.

The Commissioner said that protection of natural resources was a collective responsibility and warned that negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.

Deputy Commissioner Bhakkar Ehsan Ali Jamali and Director Agriculture Sargodha attended the meeting via video link.
