Commissioner for expediting WASA projects worth Rs.25 bln

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan on Wednesday chaired a high-level review of WASA projects under the Punjab Development Program,directing improvements in design,transparency and timely completion.

He stressed simultaneous execution of all components to avoid delays and ensure early public relief.

The Commissioner expressed concern over slow land acquisition and ordered authorities to expedite the process.

He directed strict safety measures,including continuous monitoring of open trenches with zero tolerance for negligence. Officials were also told to brief MNA's and MPA's on project details and provide constituency-wise updates.

Highlighting infrastructure issues,he observed that stagnant water damages roads and emphasized effective drainage systems.

Deputy Commissioner and other officials were instructed to ensure regular and accurate progress reporting.

Officials informed the meeting that six major projects worth over Rs.25.8 billion was underway in Multan.

The schemes include sewerage systems,disposal stations and development in unserved areas.

The projects involve laying and replacing 232 km sewer lines,constructing 168 km of roads and pavements and installing over 33,000 manhole covers.

They also include 88 pumps,40 transformers and more than 40 generators,along with modern machinery.

Launched in February 2026,the projects were scheduled for completion by December 2027.

Financial progress stands at 11 percent,while physical progress has reached 12 percent.

Work was ongoing in several areas,including Jahangirabad.
