Commissioner Hazara awards certificates to 31 LHV’s of Upper Kohistan under Dasu Project Programme

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Commissioner Hazara Division Fayyaz Ali Shah awarded certificates to 31 women from Upper Kohistan who successfully completed the Lady Health Visitor (LHV) training course under the Local Area Development Programme of the Dasu Hydropower Project.

The two-year professional training programme was conducted at the Public Health school Abbottabad, at a total cost of Rs58.8 million.

The certificate distribution ceremony was held at Jirga Baba Auditorium Abbottabad and was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Upper Kohistan, General Manager/Project Director Dasu Hydropower Project Engineer Amir Shafiq-ur-Rehman, MNA Malik Idris, senior district officials, local elders, and people from various walks of life.

Addressing the ceremony, Commissioner Fayyaz Ali Shah appreciated WAPDA’s initiative, saying the programme would help strengthen the Primary healthcare system in Upper Kohistan and play a significant role in empowering local women economically. He praised the women who completed the training, stating that the inclusion of girls from remote areas in such programmes was a positive and encouraging development.

He further stressed that education is a fundamental right for both men and women, adding that special focus on girls’ education is essential for national progress.

He said societies advance where education is prioritized and urged parents to ensure better educational opportunities for their daughters.

The Commissioner also stated that major projects such as Dasu and Diamer-Bhasha would not only strengthen the regional economy but also help address key issues including employment, education, health, electricity, and water supply. He called on local communities to fully cooperate in the completion of these national projects and avoid any obstacles in the development process.

Speaking on the occasion, General Manager/Project Director Dasu Hydropower Project Engineer Amir Shafiq-ur-Rehman said WAPDA is actively working on several socio-economic development initiatives for the local population, which will yield positive results in the future.

He informed that under the Local Area Development Programme, 30 development schemes worth Rs4.8 billion have already been completed in sectors including infrastructure, health, education, and energy, while several others are in progress. He added that around 3,450 local residents have also been provided employment opportunities through the project.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, participants appreciated the initiative and expressed hope that such developmental programs would continue in the future for the welfare and progress of the local population.
