ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Hazara Division, Fayyaz Ali Shah, has warned transporters that failure to cooperate despite government subsidies could lead to cancellation of licenses and permits, as he chaired an important meeting regarding the fare schedule for public transport.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority Hazara, SSP Traffic Abbottabad, while TMAs from Abbottabad, Mansehra, and Haripur participated via video link.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner announced that in view of the recent hike in petroleum prices, the government has decided in principle to provide subsidies for public transport, with the policy to be finalized within a day or two.
He further stated that TMA taxes have been suspended for one month to provide immediate relief to transporters.
Despite this relief, transporters have been strictly directed not to increase fares and to ensure maximum convenience for the public.
SSP Traffic Abbottabad pointed out that some transporters are creating artificial shortages to charge excess fares. Expressing strong displeasure, Commissioner Shah ordered immediate action against such practices, especially since the government has already provided significant tax relief.
The Traffic Police were also directed not to issue challans for minor violations for one month, though serious violations will still face legal action.
Transporters assured full cooperation with the government, pledging to support all public-interest measures. In his closing remarks, the Commissioner emphasized that mutual cooperation is the only effective solution to current challenges.
