KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi, visited the Civil Hospital on Tuesday and inspected the polio vaccination of children.
Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso; Medical Superintendent, Khalid Bukhari; Coordinator of the Commissioner Karachi Polio Task Force, Saud Yaqoob; and others briefed the Commissioner about the ongoing anti-polio campaign in Karachi.
It was informed that vaccination arrangements have been made in high-risk union councils and hospitals.
The Commissioner was told that in the door-to-door anti-polio campaign, children in hospitals and schools are also being vaccinated. The children coming to Civil Hospital are the most important ones required for vaccination, as they are included among the priority one (P1) children.
The Commissioner was further informed that 1000 children come to Civil Hospital every day, including children from various cities such as Quetta and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Patients from different cities across the country come to the hospital for treatment.
The Commissioner stated that every child must be administered polio drops, and special vaccination arrangements should be made at Civil Hospital and other major hospitals.
The Commissioner was informed that five teams have been formed to cover the children coming to Civil Hospital. Efforts are being made to ensure that no child misses the polio drops. The record of children who are vaccinated is also preserved.
According to the handout, the campaign started on April 13 and will continue until April 19.
In the anti-polio campaign in Karachi, 2.5 million children under the age of five will be administered polio drops.
In this campaign, 23,000 polio workers are performing their duties, while 7,000 security personnel are also on duty.
Approximately 500 Lady Police Constables have also been deployed. Special measures have been taken for the vaccination of children in 39 high-risk union councils, including twelve high-risk union councils where special teams have been formed for the vaccination of children at hospitals, clinics, and schools.
According to the handout, the 12 high-risk union councils include five zones of the Agra Taj Colony Union Council, as well as Islamia Colony, Muslimabad, Muzaffarabad, Manghopir, Ittehad Town, Chishti Nagar, and Songal Union Council.
On the Commissioner's instructions, all Deputy Commissioners are working with a plan to ensure the success of the campaign.
Daily briefings regarding the appointment of polio teams and micro-planning are held at the offices of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners.
The concerned Assistant Commissioner, along with health officers in their respective sub-divisions, reviews the preparations of the teams before they depart for field vaccination and reminds them of essential protocols.
Additionally, at the end of each day of the campaign, an evening review meeting is held at the Deputy Commissioner's office with District Health Officers and monitoring teams, and the daily performance report is sent to the Commissioner Karachi and the Emergency Operations Centre.
