KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) The Commissioner Karachi Office will issue permits for establishing cattle markets, after consultation with the police and traffic police, to facilitate the people purchase sacrificial animals on the occasion of the holy festival Eid-ul-Azha.
This decision was taken on Thursday in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, said a spokesperson.
The meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, Additional Commissioner Karachi-I Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Managing Director Solid Waste Management board Tariq Nizamani, Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jafar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sajjad Abro, and senior officers of Town Municipal Corporations and Cantonment Boards, while all Deputy Commissioners participated via video link.
The Cattle markets established without permission will be illegal and action will be taken against them.
All Deputy Commissioners and police will take coordinated measures to prevent illegal cattle markets from cropping up across the city.
All relevant agencies, including the KMC, Town Municipal Corporations, and Cantonment Boards, will approach the concerned Deputy Commissioner for setting up required cattle markets within their respective areas and jurisdictions.
In the meeting, it was decided that illegal cattle markets established within the city will be prevented.
Any cattle market established without the Commissioner’s permission will be illegal and action will be taken against it.
It was decided in the meeting that security, cleanliness, and parking arrangements will be made for cattle markets. All relevant agencies have been directed to complete planning for the establishment of cattle markets in their respective areas and jurisdictions within one week.
They must approach the Deputy Commissioner of the area in writing for the desired location of the cattle market, so that permits can be issued in consultation with the relevant agencies.
It was decided that for issuance of permits it will be mandatory that the cattle market does not create traffic and sanitation problems.
The meeting was informed that last year, permission was granted for 14 cattle markets including the central market. KMC set up four, Town Municipal Corporations collectively set up seven, one was set up in Malir 15, and one in Bhains Colony, Ibrahim Hyderi.
KMC and Town Municipal Corporations have been asked to propose cattle markets only at locations where citizens will not face difficulties and where traffic and cleanliness issues will not arise.
