Commissioner orders emergency measures for Eid, crackdown on illegal trade

SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Mar, 2026) Commissioner Sargodha Division Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Wednesday presided over a meeting to finalize Eid-ul-Fitr arrangements and directed an immediate crackdown on non-tax paid cigarettes and illegal petroleum products across the division.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners of four districts, Assistant Commissioners, and officers from WASA, Sargodha Waste Management Company (SWMC), Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Regional Transport Authority (RTA), and other relevant departments.

The Commissioner directed the formation of joint teams comprising Excise, Revenue, and Punjab Emergency Relief Agency (PERA) to inspect retail shops and warehouses, warning that shops found selling non-tax paid cigarettes would be sealed for at least seven days.

Regarding fuel monitoring, he instructed that all petrol pumps be inspected daily and performance data be uploaded to the official application, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against illegal petroleum products.

Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali further emphasized the safety of public spaces, ordering fitness certifications for swings in parks and the deployment of special squads to monitor transport fares and check overcharging during the festive season.

He also directed WASA to remain alert in case of rainfall and instructed the SWMC to implement a comprehensive cleanliness plan for the city.

The Commissioner concluded by stating that duty rosters for all essential staff were sought to ensure uninterrupted field activities and public service delivery during the Eid holidays.
