Commissioner orders improvement in healthcare delivery for workers

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jun, 2026) Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Kharal has said that the mobile Outreach Programme would soon be launched in the Gujranwala and Sialkot regions to expand healthcare access for workers and their families.

He was chairing a review meeting at the PESSI Head Office, here on Wednesday, to assess medical affairs in the Gujranwala and Sialkot regions. During the meeting, a detailed review of the performance of medical services was conducted, while Director (Medical) Gujranwala/Sialkot presented a comprehensive briefing on the region’s healthcare performance and ongoing initiatives.

The meeting also discussed the proposed launch of the Mobile Outreach Programme. Zulfiqar Ali Kharal directed the relevant director to prepare a comprehensive implementation plan and submit it to the head office to ensure the programme’s effective execution.

The commissioner announced that the medicines budget for the Sialkot region would be increased to improve healthcare services.

He also directed the authorities to reduce the referral system to the minimum possible level, saying that enhanced local healthcare facilities would help provide better treatment to workers closer to their homes.

He instructed the relevant officials to take necessary measures to overcome shortages of human resources in medical centres and emphasized further improvements in cleanliness and service delivery standards in Social Security hospitals and dispensaries.

Zulfiqar Ali Kharal also directed that punctual attendance of doctors and medical staff be ensured at all costs to improve patient care and institutional efficiency.

He said the provision of quality and timely healthcare services to workers remained the foremost priority in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He added that practical measures were being taken to ensure that workers and their families received modern healthcare facilities as close to their doorstep as possible.
