QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Commissioner Quetta Division Shahzaib Khan Kakar chaired a meeting here Thursday to review and promote afforestation across the mountains and ridges surrounding Quetta Valley.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Forest, Agriculture and Environment Departments, along with other relevant institutions. Divisional Director Development Zahoor Ahmed and Assistant Commissioner Political Kaleemullah were also present.
The officials briefed the Commissioner on the phased plantation campaign. In the first phase, trees and saplings have already been successfully planted in various areas. The second phase will focus on key mountainous regions. Under this phase, 31,000 saplings are being planted initially, with a total target of 85,000 trees.
Commissioner Shahzaib Kakar instructed departments to select species suited to the local climate, ensuring their growth, longevity, and proper maintenance.
He emphasized that afforestation is crucial not only for environmental improvement but also for mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming third and fourth phases of the campaign, which will cover eastern mountain ranges in the coming months. The Commissioner directed relevant institutions to prepare feasibility reports and conduct comprehensive surveys to finalize details.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar added that the plantation drive is being given top priority, with full support from provincial authorities. “This initiative will be completed within the stipulated timeframe to make Quetta Valley greener, healthier, and more pleasant,” he said.
