Commissioner Rawalpindi reviews uplift schemes, directs urgent action on parking issues

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Mar, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engineer Aamir Khattak, on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review development schemes and directed urgent measures to resolve parking issues in the city on an emergency basis.

He said a summary had been sent for the establishment of a parking plaza in Commercial Market, while another had been forwarded to secure funds for the city’s beautification and uplifting projects.

The commissioner directed the relevant departments to ensure quality, transparency and timely completion of all ongoing projects, and to utilise all available resources to provide maximum relief to the public during Ramazan.

During a briefing, the meeting was informed that a team of the Directorate General of Archaeology Punjab had determined the limits of Rawalpindi’s old city based on historical maps and current urban analysis, and initial heritage protection boundaries had also been set.

It was further informed that, in coordination with the DGO Office and the Auqaf Department, verification of land ownership and identification of buildings for restoration and façade improvement was under way.

The meeting was told that under the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority’s Chief Minister Saaf Pani Programme, Phase Cluster V, a total of 1,180 water filtration plants were being installed across six districts of the Rawalpindi Division, including 219 plants in four tehsils of Rawalpindi District.

Contractors were fully mobilised and work was progressing at pace, with completion of the project expected by June 30, 2026, it was added.

Officials said PSPA field staff were conducting regular site visits to ensure quality of facilities and obtain public feedback, while a 24/7 helpline, 1336, had also been established to address complaints.
