RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engr. Aamir Khattak, on Monday, underscored the importance of promoting interfaith harmony, brotherhood and religious tolerance during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Presiding over a peace committee meeting in Murree to review arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, he directed all departments to ensure foolproof security and uninterrupted civic services during the holy month.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Murree, religious scholars, representatives of various schools of thought, organisers of majalis and mourning processions, officials of Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, Police, the Health Department, municipal institutions and heads of relevant departments.

A detailed review was conducted of law and order arrangements, security measures, traffic management and the provision of civic facilities during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Engr. Aamir said the routes of all majalis and processions had been finalised and directed the departments concerned to complete all security and administrative arrangements within the stipulated timeframe.

He said mourners should not face any inconvenience and emphasised the need for effective implementation of all arrangements.

The commissioner said a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against those spreading hate speech, inflammatory material and sectarian hatred.

He directed the authorities concerned to ensure effective monitoring of social media and immediately identify content based on religious hatred, rumours or incitement.

Khattak warned that prompt legal action would be taken against those found disseminating provocative or hateful content.

The commissioner directed all institutions to work in close coordination and adopt a unified strategy to maintain law and order.

He also called for special cleanliness arrangements along the routes of processions and at majalis venues, directing the timely cleaning of sewerage lines and deployment of dedicated teams for the immediate removal of waste.

He further instructed the authorities to ensure an uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water for mourners and establish water points at required locations.

Engr. Aamir directed officials to install CCTV cameras at sensitive locations and ensure the availability of walk-through gates, metal detectors and other security equipment.

He also ordered comprehensive security arrangements on the entry and exit routes of processions and gatherings.

The commissioner directed Rescue 1122, Civil Defence and Health Department teams to remain on high alert and maintain preparedness for emergency response.

He said all majalis and processions should be held according to the approved schedule and timings, while organisers must strictly comply with the code of conduct and remain in constant contact with the administration.
