Commissioner reviews progress of Daducha Dam, urges faster pace on key components

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Aamir Khattak, on Friday visited the Daducha Dam to review ongoing development work and chaired a meeting to assess progress, challenges and plans.

During the visit, officials briefed the Commissioner that overall work on the project had reached 60 percent completion. This included 39 percent of the main dam, 62 percent of spillways, 78 percent of general dam construction, and 100 percent completion of the cofferdam and diversion arrangements. The total cost of the project stands at Rs 52,730 million, with completion scheduled for 2029.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that work on the dam was progressing at a good pace and expressed hope that it could be completed ahead of schedule. He directed the Small Dams Organization to further accelerate work on the bridge and the residential colony.

Khattak also instructed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to complete the feasibility study of water supply schemes for Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas and submit a report to the provincial government to facilitate land acquisition under Section 4, ensuring the timely provision of water once the dam becomes operational.

The Commissioner further directed that a study be conducted to assess the feasibility of hydropower generation from the dam. He emphasised the need to expedite practical steps to connect nearby areas and colonies to the water supply network to provide clean drinking water to residents.

He stressed that transparency and quality must be ensured at all stages of the project, directing regular inspection of construction materials. He also called for improved coordination among relevant departments to ensure timely completion.

An effective monitoring mechanism would be established, he said, adding that progress and quality would be continuously reviewed through field visits. Officials informed the meeting that installation of pipelines within the dam structure for the bridge had been completed, while further acceleration of bridge construction had been directed.

The Commissioner reiterated that all phases of the project must be completed within the stipulated timeline, warning that delays would not be tolerated.
