Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan chaired a review meeting to assess progress on the Model Village Programme, under which 63 villages across the division were being upgraded with improved civic facilities

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Karim Khan chaired a review meeting to assess progress on the Model Village Programme, under which 63 villages across the division were being upgraded with improved civic facilities.

The meeting was informed that the initiative, launched under the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, aimed to enhance the quality of life in rural areas by ensuring provision of basic amenities including water supply, sanitation, streetlights and improved infrastructure.

During the session, the commissioner proposed developing playgrounds instead of parks in several villages, stating that playgrounds were more practical for rural communities and help promote local sports and healthy activities. He directed that parks should only be developed where a sustainable model was possible; otherwise, projects should be converted into playgrounds.

Aamir Karim Khan stressed the need to ensure quality and sustainability in all development schemes and directed deputy commissioners to increase field visits for effective monitoring.

He also instructed consultants to strictly follow approved designs and complete projects within the stipulated timeframe.

He further ordered that installation of tuff tiles and streetlights on main village streets must be carried out according to approved designs, while complete planning details, including project length, lighting arrangements and other facilities, should be clearly documented for each village.

Officials of the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company presented a progress report on the provision of basic facilities. Divisional Coordinator Iqbal Bukhari informed the meeting that tendering for the project began in December, practical work started in January and the project duration was one year.

Deputy commissioners of the region participated in the meeting through video link, while relevant departmental officers were also present.
