Commissioner, RPO review Muharram security in Chiniot; direct flawless arrangements for 258 processions

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) In line with directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Faisalabad divisional administration intensified preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram as Commissioner Faisalabad Musarrat Jabeen and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sohail Akhtar Sukhera visited Chiniot on Thursday and chaired a high-level meeting to review security and administrative arrangements.

During the visit, Deputy Commissioner Ayesha Rizwan and District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif briefed the meeting on preparations for the holy month, informing participants that 258 processions and 685 religious gatherings would be held across the district, with comprehensive arrangements already in place.

The Commissioner directed all departments to leave no room for lapses in security during the Ashra of Muharram, emphasizing that control rooms must remain operational round the clock until Ashura. She ordered the immediate completion of CCTV camera installations along major procession routes and at key congregation points, while stressing the need for strict monitoring, rooftop security deployment, comprehensive search operations, and full implementation of the ban on misuse of loudspeakers and Section 144 restrictions. She further instructed authorities to ensure that all security equipment, including walk-through gates, remained fully functional.

Reviewing civic arrangements, Musarrat Jabeen called for exemplary cleanliness measures along procession routes and directed the Punjab food Authority to actively inspect sabeels established during Muharram. She emphasized the urgent restoration of drainage and sewerage systems, ensuring that no manholes remained uncovered. Teams from municipal committees, the Suthra Punjab Program, FESCO, Sui Gas, and WASA were instructed to maintain a visible field presence and promptly address any issues that could disrupt processions or gatherings.

The Commissioner and RPO also met members of the District Peace Committee and praised the role of religious scholars in promoting harmony and maintaining peace during Muharram. Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements made by organizers and community leaders, they urged scholars to continue spreading messages of unity and consensus. Later, the officials inspected procession routes, reviewed on-ground preparations, and met organizers, directing them to keep routes clear and ensure strict adherence to security protocols to facilitate peaceful observance of Muharram across the district.
