SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Apr, 2026) Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali termed the shrimp farming project in Sargodha a historic step
not only for Sargodha but for the entire province and country.
He expressed these views during his visit in chak 58 north to review of a Rs13 billion modern shrimp (prawn) farming project being developed over 500 acres in chak no 58 north under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
During his visit to the project site, the commissioner assessed ongoing progress and received a comprehensive briefing from concerned officials, experts, and contractors.
He was informed that the project is a key component of Punjab’s blue economy initiative and aims to transform Sargodha into a major aquaculture hub.
On the occasion, officials briefed the commissioner that the project involves the development of 128 ponds and installation of 128 tube wells, forming its core infrastructure.
Construction work, including canals, roads, solar systems, offices, and residential facilities, is progressing and is expected to be completed by June.
He was also informed that an internship program will be launched to train local youth, ensuring a skilled workforce for sustainable operations. Scholarships and educational opportunities will also be provided to more than 150 candidates under the initiative.
Shaukat Ali said that it would boost employment and exports, adding that with effective planning and execution, the project could meet international standards and strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global market.
