ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) directed the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training to formulate a comprehensive education policy within two months, aimed at expanding access to quality education and addressing challenges in the federal capital's school system.
The committee, chaired by Naveed Qamar, reviewed audit observations concerning out-of-school children in capital and stressed that investment in education and human capital should remain a national priority, said a press release on Thursday.
The Chairman underscored that policy would be submitted to the federal cabinet for approval and funding, with the aim of strengthening educational infrastructure, improving teacher availability and expanding learning opportunities across capital.
Secretary Education, Nadeem Mahbub, highlighted the numbers of schools established in capital since 2014, efforts made to secure additional development funding and challenges faced in this regard.
Highlighting the need for long-term reforms, Naveed Qamar called for a thorough review of the education policy, greater investment in schools, and innovative public-private partnership models to meet the growing educational needs of the capital.

Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) informed the committee that enrollment in Islamabad schools has continued to improve with male students enrollment increased from 96,000 in 2021 to 99,000 in 2024, while female enrollment rose from 128,000 to 129,000 over the same period. He added that the average class size in Islamabad schools is around 32 students.
The committee also reviewed progress on teacher recruitment. The Secretary Education said around 1,000 teachers have been recruited since 2023, while the recruitment of nearly 900 additional teachers is currently in progress through the Public Service Commission.
Assuring the committee of swift action, the Secretary Education said a comprehensive education policy would be finalized within two months.
