KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan has rejected the two-member ministerial committee formed by the Sindh cabinet to implement the Judicial Commission's report on the Gul Plaza tragedy, expressing no confidence in its composition. In a statement issued from the party's Bahadurabad headquarters, the lawmakers said a committee comprising only government ministers could not conduct a transparent inquiry. They termed the exclusion of opposition members and civil society representatives as evidence of bad faith. Calling it a "murder of justice," the MQM-P members alleged that the Sindh govt was attempting to cover up its administrative failures and shield those responsible. They said the committee, in its current form, appeared to be a means to grant a clean chit to those within the government. The lawmakers further argued that the absence of independent experts and civil society representatives had undermined the committee's legal and moral credibility. "Instead of addressing the grievances of affected traders and the public the government was resorting to political point-scoring." They demanded the immediate release of the judicial commission's report so that the public could know the facts.
