ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) A three-day international workshop on natural products for community education and sustainable capacity building in Africa concluded at Bayero University Kano, bringing together scientists and academics from across member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
Held in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual participation, the workshop focused on applied learning and strengthening practical research skills in natural products—an area considered vital for regional development.
The event was jointly organized by OIC-COMSTECH, the World University Association for Community Development, Universitas Airlangga, and Bayero University.
Technical sessions were conducted by COMSTECH distinguished scholars and experts from Universitas Airlangga, including Prof. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, Prof. Nanik Siti Aminah, Prof. Alfinda Novi Kristanti, Dr. Yuni Sari Amalia, and Dr. Salma Zulqaida. Participants received hands-on training in contemporary research methodologies and practical approaches to harnessing natural resources more effectively.
The inaugural session featured remarks by Prof. Haruna Musa, Vice Chancellor of Bayero University; Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH; and Prof. Muhammad Madyan, Rector of Universitas Airlangga. Dr. AbdulKabir Oladele Oladimeji, honorary young academic and scientific representative of OIC-COMSTECH in Nigeria, also addressed the gathering, alongside representatives of the Indonesian Embassy in Nigeria, including Minister-Counsellor for Economic Affairs Harryansah Khairul, said a news release.
Speakers underscored the importance of strengthening scientific and research capacity across Africa to support sustainable development goals, noting that such collaborations enhance institutional capabilities, human resource development, and global research integration.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants expressed their commitment to continued academic exchanges and joint research initiatives to sustain momentum in regional scientific cooperation.
