RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) Rawalpindi has intensified its awareness campaign to safeguard consumer rights and curb the sale of substandard products, with a notable increase in fines and legal actions during the current year.

Talking to APP, a spokesperson for the authority said a comprehensive campaign was underway at the district level to ensure the provision of quality goods and protect citizens from fraud. He said regular market inspections, public awareness sessions and prompt redressal of complaints were being ensured.

He said action had been taken against dozens of business outlets this year over violations including overcharging, sale of substandard items and misleading advertisements. Heavy fines were imposed, while in several cases consumers were compensated. Legal proceedings were also initiated for serious violations.

The spokesperson said under the Consumer Protection Act enforced in Punjab, violators could be fined from Rs.1,000.0 to Rs.100,000.0 along with immediate legal action.

In serious cases, courts could also award imprisonment and order payment of compensation to affected consumers.

He said a large number of citizens in Rawalpindi approached the authority with complaints, most of which were resolved in a timely manner. He added that following recent legislative improvements, the complaint registration and redressal mechanism had been simplified to facilitate easy access to justice.

Meanwhile, awareness sessions were being organised at educational institutions, markets and public places, informing citizens about their basic rights, complaint procedures and ways to avoid fraud.

The spokesperson urged citizens to obtain receipts while making purchases, check product quality and immediately contact the Consumer Protection Authority in case of any complaint to ensure timely action.

He said the ongoing awareness campaign would not only empower consumers but also strengthen transparency and enforcement of law in the market, leading to an improved business environment.
