Contingency measures for upcoming monsoon season reviewed

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jun, 2026) A meeting was held to review relevant measures for the upcoming monsoon season and assess arrangements for dealing with potential emergencies across the division.

Commissioner D.I. Khan division Daud Khan chaired the meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioner Dera Ismail Khan Hikmatullah, deputy commissioner Tank, deputy commissioner South Waziristan Upper, Deputy Commissioner South Waziristan Lower (online), additional deputy commissioners, Secretary to Commissioner, Assistant to Commissioner (Political and Development) Sajjad Baloch, and officials from Irrigation, Communication and Works (C&W), Rescue 1122, Health, Civil Defence and other relevant departments.

The meeting reviewed contingency plans, emergency response mechanisms and implementation of government directives aimed at minimizing risks during the monsoon season.

Various departments briefed the meeting on their preparedness and available resources.

Commissioner Daud Khan said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had assigned specific responsibilities to all concerned departments to effectively respond to potential monsoon-related emergencies.

He said the purpose of the meeting was to reinforce those responsibilities and ensure that all institutions remained fully prepared.

The commissioner noted that climate change was affecting countries around the world, including Pakistan, increasing the likelihood of extreme weather events.

He stressed the need for proactive planning and coordinated efforts to safeguard human lives and property from possible losses.

He directed district administrations to establish and activate control rooms, conduct mock exercises to test emergency response capabilities and strengthen coordination among all relevant departments.

Emphasizing that public service and the protection of citizens remain the government's top priorities, Daud Khan instructed all departments to keep necessary machinery, equipment and emergency resources ready at all times to ensure a swift and effective response to any monsoon-related situation.
