Convict escapes Hub court; Police officers charged over negligence

HUB, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) A convicted prisoner, Shehzad Bhootani, escaped from the premises of the District and Sessions Court in Hub shortly after being sentenced, prompting swift police action and charges against several officers accused of negligence and complicity.

The incident occurred immediately after the court announced its verdict in a pending case.

District Police Hub launched an urgent investigation, reviewing video footage and recordings under judicial orders. Evidence suggested that the escape was facilitated through alleged collusion by certain individuals.

Authorities moved quickly to register cases and arrest those found directly or indirectly involved in aiding the convict’s flight.

Police confirmed that further inquiries are ongoing to examine every aspect of the incident.

In addition, Inspector Ali Akbar Zahri, ASI Ghulam Sarwar, and Head Constable Rais have been charged for negligence that allowed the convict to flee easily from the court premises. Departmental proceedings against them are also underway.

District Police Hub stressed that no bias, negligence, or dereliction of duty will be tolerated. “The rule of law applies equally to all. Any failure in duty will be dealt with strictly under the law,” a police spokesperson declared.
