Cotton commissioner inspects research trials at CRI, CCRI

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jun, 2026) Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) Chief Executive Officer and Cotton Commissioner Dr Khadim Hussain on Wednesday visited the Cotton Research Institute (CRI) Multan, where he conducted a detailed inspection of National Coordinated Varietal Trials (NCVT) and ongoing research experiments.

Dr Khadim reviewed trial planning, experimental plots and current crop performance, describing preliminary data generated through the trials as highly valuable for future varietal selection and cultivation strategies. Chief Scientist CRI Muhammad Jameel briefed participants on field experiment methodology and data collection procedures.

The NCVT Committee, comprising Dr. Nazar Iqbal, Director General Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department (FSC&RD), Dr. Muhammad Idrees Khan, Secretary PCCC, Ms. Sabahat Hussain, Director CCRI, and other agricultural scientists, inspected advanced cotton lines and appreciated progress achieved on scientific grounds. Deliberations focused on yield potential of new lines, disease and pest resistance, and performance under climatic stress.

The committee unanimously resolved that NCVT results would be utilised to formulate an integrated strategy aimed at improving availability of superior seed, strengthening seed registration and facilitating transfer of modern agricultural technologies to farmers.

Dr Khadim subsequently inspected advanced cotton lines including Cyto-547, CIM-990, Cyto-548, CIM-810 and CIM-801 in various experimental fields. He also reviewed High-Density Planting (HDP) and mulching trials.

Appreciating the performance of CCRI (federal government department) scientists, he directed them to accelerate screening and evaluation of non-Bt germplasm, noting significant opportunities for non-Bt cotton cultivation in Balochistan.

Dr Khadim reaffirmed PCCC's commitment to cotton revival in Pakistan through development of improved varieties, provision of quality seed and effective dissemination of modern research to cotton growers.
