LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th May, 2026) Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said on Monday that revival of cotton crop is foremost priority of Punjab Government, and all stakeholders must work together to achieve this goal.
He was addressing the business community and FPCCI Task Force on Agriculture here at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Office. All stakeholders participated actively in the special meeting on revival of cotton crop. The meeting discussed way and means to stop gradual decline in cotton production.
The Provincial Minister said that Punjab Chief Minister is committed for cotton revival and also take up this matter with the Prime Minister. He mentioned that cotton yield is reducing because farmers are not receiving adequate profits, which motivate them to cultivate other crops with better returns. He vowed, "Together with stakeholders, I am ready to discuss measures for cotton revival with Federal Government."
He said, Punjab Agriculture Department has always formulated schemes in consultation with the private sector and farmers.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He also expressed concern over the proposal to establish a gymkhana club over the land of Cotton Research Institute in Multan. He stated that significant initiatives are being planned in agricultural research and development.
On this occasion, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, Regional Chairman and Vice President Zaki Aijaz, and Patron-in-Chief of UBG S.M. Tanveer stated that FPCCI has formed separate committees for all major crops, which are working day and night for the improvement of agriculture.
They paid tribute to Punjab Chief Minister for giving a new direction to agricultural development, modern reforms, infrastructure improvement, and public welfare projects in Punjab. Under her dynamic leadership, they said, remarkable progress and improvement are being witnessed in the agricultural sector.
They added that Punjab is the agricultural hub of Pakistan and serves as the backbone of the national economy.
The Punjab Government is making positive progress in the agricultural sector, however, there is still room for further improvement.
