Court adjourns hearing in Gujrat projects corruption reference until April 15

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) An accountability court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the corruption and kickbacks reference against former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi and other accused in connection with Gujrat development projects till April 15, directing National Accountability Bureau witnesses to appear on the next hearing.

Accountability Court Judge Rana Arif conducted proceedings in the NAB reference, where prosecution witnesses appeared for recording of evidence. However, senior counsel for Parvez Elahi, Arshad Javed, could not attend due to his engagement before the Lahore High Court.

His associate counsel requested adjournment, informing the court that lawyers were also observing their weekly strike, due to which witness statements could not be recorded.

The court accepted the request and deferred proceedings until April 15.

Former principal secretary of the Punjab Chief minister , Muhammad Khan Bhatti, along with other accused, appeared before the court, while a representative attended on behalf of Parvez Elahi.

The court has already granted permanent exemption from personal appearance to Parvez Elahi on medical grounds and appointed Mukhtiar Ahmad Ranjha as his pleader.

Parvez Elahi and other accused have been charged with allegedly receiving kickbacks and bribes in development projects. The National Accountability Bureau has filed the reference, and formal charges have already been framed against all accused.
