RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2026) The district administration is taking all possible measures to keep vegetable and fruit prices under control in local markets, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Rawalpindi Cantonment Saad-ur-Rehman said in an exclusive talk with APP on Monday.
Saad-ur-Rehman said that monitoring teams from the district administration have strictly enforced the display of official price lists across all wholesale and retail markets, ensuring citizens are well-informed of government-notified rates during purchases.
To a question he announced that the administration will launch a targeted crackdown in the coming days against vendors overcharging and violating fixed price schedules.
Reaffirming the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards profiteering, the Assistant Commissioner emphasized that illegal price hikes will not be tolerated.

On the other side, local residents expressed severe concern over market rates, alleging that vendors are charging arbitrary prices and pushing essential groceries out of reach. Inflation has hit record levels in Rawalpindi, with tomato prices soaring up to Rs 500 per kilogram along with sharp hikes in potatoes, onions and other seasonal fruits.
Speaking to APP, citizens urged the government to take immediate notice of the situation and deploy field officers actively to curb artificial inflation and stabilize the supply of basic food items.
