ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday termed the Gilgit-Baltistan elections free, fair and credible, saying the peaceful conduct of the polls and active participation of political parties reflected the region’s democratic maturity, while reaffirming the government's commitment to accelerating development and transforming GB into a leading tourism destination.
While speaking to a local media outlet, he appreciated the public’s trust and said the election results reflected growing confidence in the government’s narrative.
He expressed optimism that the PML-N would strengthen its position in the near future, noting that it currently stands as the second-largest political force in GB after the PPP.
He said the outcome demonstrated that people had endorsed their political vision and policy direction, adding that it was a clear indication of increasing public support for their governance approach.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He also credited the Federal government and the caretaker setup in Gilgit-Baltistan for conducting free, fair and transparent elections.
Advisor said the process witnessed enthusiastic participation from voters as well as political parties, which contributed to the credibility of the electoral exercise.
Responding to a question, he said we are committed to prioritizing development in Gilgit-Baltistan, adding that special attention would be given to strengthening infrastructure and promoting tourism to turn the region into a key tourist hub.
To another query regarding possible cabinet changes, he said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has the authority and discretion to make decisions based on performance, however, he clarified that there is no official confirmation regarding any such changes at this stage.
