DC approves 33 wheelchairs for special persons

KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Mar, 2026) Under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed, the District Rehabilitation and Persons with Disabilities Committee convened a meeting to discuss measures for the welfare and accessibility of special persons.

During the session, the Deputy Commissioner approved the provision of wheelchairs to 33 special persons, aiming to improve their mobility and access to public spaces. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to implement various programs for the welfare of individuals with disabilities.

The meeting also emphasized the enforcement of a 3% employment quota for special persons in private institutions, including Nestlé, Jamhour Textile, and Qureshi Textile.

Deputy Director Social Welfare, Muhammad Umar, and other committee members participated in the discussions, highlighting strategies to ensure effective implementation of the quota.

Further directives included the construction of ramps and accessible washrooms in government and private offices to facilitate ease of movement for special persons. The Deputy Commissioner also assigned the Deputy Director of Colleges, Department of Labour, and Social Security the specific task of monitoring and ensuring compliance with the 3% quota in the private sector.

Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed stated that providing assistive devices and improving infrastructure is crucial to enhancing the independence and quality of life of persons with disabilities.
