DC, DPO chair meeting on Chehlum security

SIALKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Awais Mushtaq and District Police Officer Captain (retd) Dost Muhammad on Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Peace Committee to review security and administrative arrangements for Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).

According to a spokesperson for the Deputy Commissioner's Office, the meeting reviewed arrangements for security, traffic management, sanitation, street lighting, sewerage, clean drinking water, rescue services and medical facilities for Chehlum processions and religious gatherings. All departments concerned were directed to ensure close coordination for the smooth and peaceful observance of the event.

The deputy commissioner said all arrangements would be completed well in time and instructed the relevant departments to ensure cleanliness, proper street lighting, improved sewerage and the provision of clean drinking water along procession routes.

He appreciated the cooperation of the District Peace Committee, religious scholars, police and other departments during Muharram and urged religious leaders to promote peace, tolerance, inter-sect harmony, unity and respect for the law in their Friday sermons.

The DPO said foolproof security arrangements would be ensured through strict checking at entry and exit points, walk-through gates, metal detectors, CCTV surveillance and the deployment of additional police personnel at sensitive locations.

Members of the District Peace Committee assured the administration and police of their full cooperation to maintain peace and harmony during Chehlum.
