DC Larkana for measles' timely vaccination to protect lives

LARKANA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) The Deputy Commissioner Larkana Tariq Manzoor Chandio stated that measles is a dangerous and life-threatening disease, and timely vaccination is essential to prevent it and save human lives. He emphasized that children in underdeveloped and rural areas should also be vaccinated to protect valuable lives, and detailed information should be provided regarding measles vaccination, including how many doses have been administered so far.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held at the Darbar Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Larkana on Monday.

He directed that research be conducted to determine how many measles cases have been reported and to provide detailed information about them.

He further stated that the Government of Sindh aims to provide basic healthcare facilities to the public and has issued directives to vaccinate children to prevent measles. He asked for details of vaccinations administered since 2020 and data on cases reported in various talukas, including Ratodero and other towns.

On this occasion, he instructed officials to visit every Union Council, gather data, raise awareness about vaccination, conduct a comprehensive survey, and compile data accordingly. He emphasized that Assistant Commissioners and focal persons should also be involved. He further asked for data on how many measles cases have been admitted to the Children’s Hospital Larkana and how many children are admitted in the manual ward to ensure timely treatment.

He directed the District Health Officer Larkana to ensure proper care and complete treatment of affected children. He also ordered a survey to identify areas where unqualified practitioners and compounders are operating clinics so that action can be taken against them.

He further instructed that surveys be conducted regarding children admitted to private clinics and that reports be submitted. Doctors treating these children should be required to develop plans and submit daily reports.

Assistant Commissioner Dokri Farzana Mirani stated that teams of doctors and health workers should visit every Union Council to vaccinate children so they can be protected from this deadly disease.

Earlier, District Health Officer Larkana Dr. Shaukat Ali Abro and representatives of PPHI stated that the purpose of the meeting was to vaccinate children against measles, and campaigns would be conducted in every Union Council across Larkana district. Detailed briefings were also given through maps and charts.Officials from relevant departments attended the meeting.

Later, Deputy Commissioner Tariq Manzoor Chandio spoke about the upcoming polio campaign, stating that timely administration of polio drops is essential to protect children from this crippling disease. He emphasized the need for micro-planning, active participation of health department staff, data compilation at the Union Council level, and coordination with the education department to ensure the campaign’s success. It is worth noting that the upcoming polio campaign will run from May 18 to May 21, 2026.
